Thailand Repatriates Eighteen Detained Cambodian Soldiers

(MENAFN) Thailand released 18 Cambodian military personnel Wednesday following months of detention, government officials confirmed.

The move follows Saturday's ceasefire declaration between the neighboring nations after 20 days of border warfare that claimed no fewer than 99 lives, including non-combatants.

Thailand "repatriated the 18 detained Cambodian soldiers to Cambodia," said a statement from the Thai Foreign Ministry.

A Cambodian state outlet verified the troops' homecoming after 155 days of confinement.

The ceasefire terms stipulated that all 18 military members held since July's border confrontations—which resulted in at least 48 fatalities—would be transferred back to Cambodia provided the truce remained unbroken throughout the first 72-hour period.
